Dr. Robert Young is a naturopath, microbiologist, and self identified nutritionist. He is also a graduate of the University of Utah, and as a young man spent two years doing missionary work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England. Young is most known for his involvement with the pH Miracle diet, also called the alkaline diet, which focuses on using food choices to keep the body’s pH level at its natural concentration.
Animal proteins, sugars, caffenine and packaged foods can absolutely be avoided while vegetables and nuts make up the bulk of the diet. He published the first book on the subject in 2002 and has sold 650,000 books to date, which has been translated into 19 different languages. Overall, he has published nine books.
Proponents of an alkaline diet believe that disease is a condition of the body’s internal environment. After studying human blood cells, he argued that they respond to the pH of their surrounding fluids, and it led him to develop the pH Miracle diet. The bulk of his writings suggest that this reaction of blood cells is the ultimate cause and source of diseases and in addition as thier preventions and cures. His theories are supported by in vitro and animal studies, but haven’t yet beenproven to be beneficial in humans.
Despite all of this, many people have found his multiple books and diet techniques to be beneficial. His wife, Shelley, is a massage therapist and chef. Together they live on an avocado and grapefruit ranch in Utah. They run “The pH Miracle Center” on the ranch, holding heath retreats and seminars based on Young’s work. They also farm alkaline fruit and veggies. Get the facts, raise questions and make an enlightened call before you purchase.
