Lately, the populace has been more concerned about the quality of the food that they purchase.
People are becoming concerned with the various animal diseases that are popping up in Europe such as the Mad Cow Disease and the Bird Flu Virus, they are now taking a closer look at how our farmers are managing their produce.
The severe pressure local farmers are getting has pushed them into getting very intensive in their farming methods, and who can blame them when they are always in competition with foreign markets who find it quite easy to ship their agricultural products to other countries.
Nonetheless, intensive farming has its disadvantages and here are five reasons to choose organic instead:
An indirect result of organic farming is that our environment and wildlife are kept unharmed, that is because organic farmers do not use chemicals that harm the land and kill the rivers.
The food grown in organic farms are full of nutrients and they do not contain pesticides or any other harmful chemicals.
Keeping farm animals too closely penned together runs a higher risk of spreading any disease they pick up. These diseases are developing new strains and have the capacity to move from animals to humans, up until now scientists haven’t found any drug to counter these diseases.
Children would really benefit from organic food. Children’s immune system is not fully developed yet and could easily be overcome if the food they are eating contain traces of harmful chemicals like pesticides.
It reduces our dependence on methods and procedures that cause long-lasting harm to our environment.
You would be ensuring the health of your family whenever you choose to buy organic products over conventional ones. Imagine an apple – ripe, red and succulent – everyone would want to eat it, but what if deep inside its flesh harmful toxins are lurking?
Maybe you wouldn’t have thought of this before, but with the advent of the internet, people are more aware of what’s happening especially with the food they consume.
A few suggestions to help you start going organic would be apples, pears, strawberries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, raspberries, potatoes, bell peppers and spinach.
Aside from the above mentioned, you can also try out organic varieties of eggs, milk, cheese, bacon, all types of meat, pasta and baby food.
