I am not a huge cole slaw fan , but my grandfather. Wow. Is that another story!
I debate he must practically live on Kentuckey Fried Chicken’s cole slaw , he claims it to be the “best ever”. So naturally my husband & I wanted to impress him (me and my husband love to cook) so we set out on a mission to recreate the KFC magic in our home .
After seaching the internet looking for the secret restaurant recipe , we were confused. We had found alot of different recipes, and had no inkling which one was right ! Most of them claimed to be ther right one but somehow I knew my grandfather has a more discriminating taste.
So we chose the 2 that seemed to be the right 1 , and made both of them. I tasted them both , but like I did say , I’m not a big fan and really didn’t know how they compared to KFC , although they did taste rather differently against each other .
When my grandfather took the first bite , we held our breath, wait for him to say “wow, you got KFC cole slaw” and then for us to respond with “No! We cooked it ourselves!” but no way , he placed the fork down and said “this slaw is terrible”!
Oops!
About 1 week after the embarrassing moment , I was talking with a coworker about what happened and she told me about a resource I’d never heard of before. Apparently there is a “secret” club of sorts that swaped restaurant copycat recipes back and forth. I checked it out and yes , there was the notable KFC cole slaw recipe.
So I sparked up the kitchen and called grandfather over, and you know what…he loved it! He said was just like the KFC cole slaw recipe from the restaurant . The best part of the story is that we found an eternal supply of the best recipes, and can now cook like the masters from our own home . How neat is that?
