Uncle Tom Needs a Glucometer

Uncle Tom certainly never really took attention of his health. As much as I can also recollect, he was at all times my fat uncle.

His wife, Aunt Matilda was consistently telling him to minimize his intake of food. Poor aunt Matilda always did her best to cook the kind of foods which are advised by dieticians and as long as I do know, she always cooked healthy meals for her family.  Tom’s wife rarely prepared desserts and she refrained from acquiring packets of biscuits and other foods that were high in sugar content.

Unfortunately my uncle always loved to nibble on sweets, or be it any kind of food that contained sugar. Because of this, Tom took a habit of going to the supermarket to shop for sweets, or all other “missing” items that his wife does not usually buy. According to my auntie, her husband has the bad habit of eating a packet of biscuits in a single go. You never know what Tom eats in the office, surely he won’t consume a salad meal while in the office and you never know the amount of soda drinks and sweets does he buy during office hours.

The doctor has advised him over and over again to watch his weight, to eat smaller portions, to consume healthier foods and also to avoid sweets, but all of the advice always fell on deaf ears. My uncle is usually a hard headed man so when people tell him to limit his diet he usually does the opposite thing. Not surprisingly, uncle Tom’s son and daughter also adore to eat chocolates, cakes and sweets. Like father like son, as they say.

Unfortunately several days ago uncle Tom had a blood test and results showed he has type 2 diabetes. Uncle Tom got the shock of his life because the doctor explained what are the symptoms of diabetes.

His doctor advised that it will be best to obtain a glucose meter, either by purchasing one or by registering to acquire a free one at some websites. The doctor told him that just watching what food he eats is not really enough.

Tom continues to be bewildered based on the words of his doctor. Suddenly Tom started eating less sweets but this fact, plus the whole diabetes story made him rather depressed. He still requires to get a glucose meter, so I decided i would help him with this one.

After searching for glucose meters on a handful of search engines, I came across a web page that provides glucose meters at no charge, provided you give them your contact information. Something I realized is that a glucometer is an additional word for a glucose meter.

I filled every detail of uncle Tom within the form provided and registered to get a free glucose meter. This is actually least I could do for my poor uncle.

I would like to know the amount of time would it take them to dispatch the free glucose meter.
