For a classy , slightly retro themed party, start the mood early hearkening back to martini parties of the past.  First, send out swanky  martini invitations to each guest and ask that they dress in black or white clothing only.  When it’s party time, cover your tables with crisp white tablecloths.  Turn the lights down low and burn votive candles.  Put distinctive stemware charms on the martini glasses so they can be easily identified by their owners throughout the night.  Play Frank Sinatra or Michael Buble for ambiance.  Serve hors d’oeuvres like smoked brie, black caviar, hot artichoke and crab dip , and shrimp along with an offering of various crackers, toast points and chips on black lacquered trays.

If you’re having the same friends over who you once chugged coolers  with, you may seek out a more playful experience.  Send out funny, funky invitations asking your guests to come with the fixings for their favorite martini  to share with the group.  It’s an ingenious idea to get some help with event  planning and can be a good  conversation starter.  Decorate with white tablecloths and votives in martini shaped candle holders.  Blow up green and black balloons and draw red circles on one end of them to resemble olives and strew them around the house.  For music and fun, how about a night of Frank Sinatra karaoke?  Lastly, martini parties go downtown when you serve your old friends some old favorites like pigs in a blanket, mini bagel pizzas and hot wings.

Regardless of whether you wish to create an ambient evening full of quiet conversation and laughter or a raucous celebration, martini parties are often a way to bring people together.  So get started on your guest list and get ready for some fun.  Pull out that little string of pearls and “shake” or “stir” up a martini theme party to remember.
